More than 460 pickleball players from eight states gathered in Glen Allen and Henrico County over the Halloween weekend for the Pickleboo Classic Tournament. Seven players from Gloucester and Mathews participated, and four came home with medals. In top photo are Novice gold winners Jill Smith of Gloucester and Lanell Jarvis of Foster, from left. They earned a silver medal in the Women’s Doubles 60+ 3.5 bracket. Other local participants included Rick Shutt of Hayes, Gary O’Neil of Gloucester and Linda Tjossem of Hayes. Pickleball is the country’s fastest growing sport, and our counties are seeing the boom as well. More than 60 players coordinate with each other on a GroupMe app for times and places to play.
