Mathews High School and eighth grade students interested in participating in VHSL winter sports activities must have a completed, up-to-date physical before trying out, according to assistant athletic director Al DeWitt.
Tryouts and practices for boys’ and girls’ basketball, wrestling, indoor track and cheerleading begin Dec. 5, with the first interscholastic games to be played on Dec. 21.
The completed physical is also required before taking part in any preseason conditioning or open gym activities, he said.
In addition, there is a $40 pay-to-play fee that is required to participate in Mathews athletics. Physicals and athletic forms are available in the high school main office, athletic director’s office and the main office of Thomas Hunter Middle School.
