PHYLLIS FORREST HARWOOD

Phyllis Forrest Harwood, 71, of Gloucester, departed this life on May 18, 2017, after a long illness.

She was born on July 26, 1945. She graduated from Gloucester High School in 1963, and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She was a lifelong resident of Gloucester County.

Phyllis was a friend to all and generous to a fault. Next to her family she was passionate about animals, especially Papillons and cats of any kind. Phyllis will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Virgil M. and Lucy S. Forrest, and her sister, Betty F. Isom.

She leaves to cherish her memory her husband and best friend, John Hughes Harwood Jr.; daughter, Laurel L. Burns and husband Terence; son, John H. Harwood III; grandchildren, Samuel and Katherine Burns; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Bristow and husband Jamie; stepgrandchildren, Leanna and Erin Bristow; sister, Glenda McFarland and husband Harry; brother, Raymond Forrest and wife Anita; aunt, Patricia Forrest; cousin, Mary S. Thomas; sister-in-law, Eloise Shankle and husband Dale; brothers-in-law, Robert Harwood and wife Ann and Stuart Harwood, and a host of many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

The family deeply appreciates the care and compassion shown by the staff at Riverside Walter Reed Hospital during this long and difficult illness.

Funeral service conducted by the Rev. Chris McMillan was at 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, 2017, at Providence Baptist Church. Interment followed in Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. The family received friends Sunday, May 21, 2017, from 7-8:30 p.m. at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point.
