The Gloucester Woman’s Club will hold the “Friends of Lens Photography Show” tomorrow and Saturday from noon until 5 p.m. both days at the Edge Hill House on Gloucester Main Street.
The club will present a collection of work by two local photographers, Sean Smith and the late Jeff Thomas (1949-2021).
“We haven’t done one for years,” said Betty Dovel, club member about the photography show. In fact, she said this photography show will be “the third in 50 years” that the club has presented.
Member Chris Evans said the role of the woman’s club is to “enhance the cultural life of the county” and this is one way the club is achieving that mission.
Photographic muses present in both photographers’ work include stills of water, nature, boats and local scenes.
Smith is a self-described “coastal Virginia photographer” and has been practicing photography for over 25 years. He worked as a public affairs photographer at NASA Langley for over 10 years. He is now employed at Olivia’s in the Village to support his photography habit. His work can be found on Facebook and Instagram.
Thomas spent his early years in South America and graduated from the University of Virginia. In his later years, Thomas was an avid sailor and traveler and had a passion for boats and photography. His work was published in several periodicals during his life, including Chesapeake Bay Magazine. Thomas split his time between Richmond and Gloucester in the last years of his life.
This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided. Clinton Midgett will play jazz on keyboard both days, beginning at 2:30 p.m. Some photography will be available for sale.
This show is part of the Gloucester Arts Festival.
