Phase 1 nearly complete

The roofing and steel frame for the boathouse and community event center at Williams Wharf should be finished within the next two weeks, said Lynda Smith Greve, general operations manager. The next phase will be closing in the structure with walls, and a capital campaign is underway for that purpose. Another $4 million is needed to complete the William and Catharine Owens Water’s Edge Center, according to the website of the Mathews Land Conservancy, which owns Williams Wharf Landing. Greve encouraged the public to drop by to see the progress that’s been made. She said that the floating dock for non-motorized watercraft and the fishing pier are open in spite of the ongoing construction, and the public is welcome to make use of them, free of charge, from sunrise to sunset.
