Phantoms overpower Dukes in football, 42-7

The Phoebus Phantoms proved to be too much for Gloucester last Thursday as the Dukes bowed to the powerhouse team, 42-7, in Darling Stadium. The Phantoms put up 14 points each in the first and second quarters for a 28-7 halftime advantage, then added 14 more points in the third.

The lone Gloucester score came when Mark Greenauer intercepted a Phoebus pass and returned it 45 yards to the Phantoms’ 15-yard line. KaSean Lockley then took the ball to the end zone just before halftime.

Gloucester coach Sonny Merchant gave the Phantoms their due in his post-game remarks. "They’re big, physical, athletic, fast and they have good depth and skill at all of their positions. But it really boils down to a difference in depth. Our guys are playing both ways, while most of theirs are not," Merchant said.
