Peyton Allen Mason of Hayes, a vibrant young man who touched the lives of many with his kind and strong spirit, left this world suddenly and far too soon on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. He was 30 years old. Peyton graduated from West Point High School in 2013. There, he was active in the chorus and musicals and could be heard singing through the school halls while playing his ukulele. He married Taylor Anne Mason, the love of his life, and together they partnered and developed their business, The Virginia Oyster Company. Being a waterman, wooden boats were his passions; however, being a husband and a “girl dad” were his true passions and far exceeded his other passions. He took pride in the woodwork on his deadrise, the “Emilie Virginia,” and was proud to be a Freemason at the Achilles Lodge No. 281, AF & AM. From an early age, he had a strong sense of family and was later instrumental in organizing impromptu family gatherings and dinners, enjoying the cooking and family time together. His two daughters were the light of his life and the center of his world. He would do anything for them. His happy place included singing songs, playing Barbies, and being a prince daddy. He found immense peace while sitting in the backyard pushing them on the swing. His wife was his rock, who supported and loved him endlessly. Their love was a perfect example of a strong and loving union, not only as husband and wife, but as loving parents building a family filled with unwavering love and devotion. He is survived by his amazing loving wife, Taylor; beautiful daughters, Elizabeth Jane and Baya Mae; his parents, Alvin R. and Jane Wyatt Mason; brother, Wyatt Mason (Mercede); sister, Emilie Stuckey (Josh); four nephews, Larson, Parker, Theo, and Elijah; mother-in-law, Susan Hoy, and brother-in-law, Ryan Hummel (Kristen). A celebration of Peyton’s life, conducted by the Rev. William Palmer, was at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at the Abington Ruritan Club, 8784 Guinea Road, Hayes, Va. 23072. Food was served before the service. His untimely passing has left an unforgettable mark on the hearts of all who knew him and will be missed tremendously.
