Pesticide collection to be held Aug. 26 in Hartfield

The 2026 Virginia Pesticide Collection Program is underway. The nearest collection takes place Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Fleet Brothers Inc., 10072 General Puller Highway, Hartfield. Overseen by the Office of Pesticide Services, under the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, the program collects unwanted, outdated, or banned pesticides, at no cost to eligible participants, and disposes of them in a safe manner, a release said. It is open to farmers, pesticide dealers, pest control firms, certified applicators, homeowners, and golf course operators. Participants must transport their unwanted pesticides to the collection sites. Only pesticides will be accepted. The program does not accept motor oil, paint, fuel, fertilizer, or other chemicals, the release said, nor will it accept unknown materials in quantities greater than 5 gallons of liquid or 50 pounds of solids.
