Persinger reelected school board chairman

John Persinger was elected to another term as chairman during Tuesday’s meeting of the Mathews County School Board. Joining Persinger as vice chairman for 2014-2015 is Ginger Richards.

Much of Tuesday’s meeting focused on a long list of revised school board policies and regulations, which were eventually adopted.

In other action, the board appointed Linda Hodges voting delegate and Richards as alternate to represent Mathews County at the Virginia School Boards Association’s 2014 Annual Conference on Nov. 19-21 in Williamsburg. Tuesday’s meeting was held at Lee-Jackson Elementary School instead of its normal location in the Mathews High School media center because of the pending delivery of air conditioning chiller units. The current chiller units have been broken down, with portable air conditioners being used in the school offices temporarily, according to superintendent of schools Dr. David J. Holleran.
