PEGGY GILLIKIN SHEPPARD

Peggy Gillikin Sheppard, 83, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, Nov. 23, 2017.

Peggy was a quiet and kind woman who will always be known for her love and devotion to her family. She enjoyed many trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina and to the Blue Ridge Mountains with her beloved husband, Marshall Boyd Sheppard Sr., who preceded her in death.

Peggy had a deep love of nature that she shared with her youngest son, Danny Keith Sheppard, who also preceded her in death. Peggy loved watching birds at her feeder and enjoyed watching her plants grow in her flower beds surrounding her home.

Over recent years, her grandpuppies, Lexie, Molly and Marcie, held very special places in her heart. Her favorite pastime was “babysitting” her puppies.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, James and Emma Gillikin; sisters, Catherine Bunting and Pauline Simone, and brother, Eli Gillikin.

She is survived by her oldest son, Marshall Boyd “M.B.” Sheppard Jr., and his wife Sue; her grandson, Quinton Sheppard and his wife Megan, and her great-grandson, Aiden, whom she was able to meet for the first time days before her passing. She is also survived by brothers, James “Red” Gillikin Jr. and Alex Gillikin, both of Poquoson, and Darryl Gillikin of Grafton, North Carolina.

The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to Peggy’s special caregivers, Barbara Kellum of Ordinary and Tammie Daoust of Ark, whom she loved like family. They also wish to thank Andrea Stevens of Visiting Angels, Dr. Peter Zullo of Internal Medicine Associates of Gloucester, and Riverside Walter Reed Hospice.

The family received visitors from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory, Gloucester. A memorial service for Peggy was held at 6:30 Tuesday by the Rev. Calvin Rideau at the funeral home. Interment was private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations in Peggy’s memory be made to the Gloucester Volunteer Fire and Rescue Squad, Inc., P.O. Box 1417, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Andrews Funeral Home & Crematory was in charge of arrangements.
