Pediatric physical therapist joins Gloucester business

Bayside Children’s Therapy Network, located in the Coke Building on Main Street, Gloucester, recently added a part-time pediatric physical therapist to its staff.

PT Cathie Barker said she was inspired to go into this type of work because she has a disabled sister. Barker also works for a Newport News therapy practice.

Barker said she offers various services for youngsters and young adults up to about age 22. She specializes in working on the clients’ gross motor skills, using an assortment of techniques and equipment.

Barker does an evaluation before beginning therapy for any patient. She said that some clients need to be referred to other facilities depending on their particular needs.
Barker earned a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy at Simmons College in Boston, Mass. Born in New Hampshire, she was raised in the Albany, N.Y., area.
