Pedestrian killed in Route 17 accident

A pedestrian was killed after being struck by a vehicle at approximately 5:50 a.m. Wednesday in Gloucester.

Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police said John Kenneth Green, 32, of Gloucester Point, was walking northbound on Route 17, when he attempted to cross the roadway at a non-intersection/designated crosswalk and was struck by a 1997 Toyota Camry traveling in the northbound lanes.

Green died upon impact from injuries sustained, Anaya said. The driver of the Toyota Camry, 31-year-old Lisa Renee Lopez, did not suffer any injuries.

Alcohol was not a contributing factor in the cause of the accident, Anaya said.

This was the third traffic fatality in Gloucester in 2018.  ...
