Pedestrian dies in Rt. 17 accident

A pedestrian died Wednesday morning after he was struck by a vehicle in the 6000 block of Route 17 in Gloucester.

Virginia State Police 1st Sgt. Greg Mathias said George Edward Sayers, 59, of Gloucester Point was struck by 2008 Honda that was northbound on Route 17. The accident occurred at 5:20 a.m. in the vicinity of the Gloucester Moose Lodge.

Mathias said Sayers was flown to VCU/MCV Hospital where he died of his injuries. He said the driver of the Honda was a 30-year-old White Marsh resident and the accident was still under investigation.

This is the second traffic fatality in Gloucester this year. ...
