The Virginia State Police is still investigating a single-vehicle accident Saturday night on Guinea Road that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

VSP Sgt. Michelle Anaya said that the accident occurred at 8:23 p.m. at the intersection of Guinea Road and Rowes View Lane. She said 50-year-old Liam M. Greenhalgh was walking in the eastbound lane of Guinea Road during a heavy rainfall.

The driver of a 2017 Volkswagen Golf was travelling eastbound on Guinea Road when the driver came upon and struck Greenhalgh. Anaya said Greenhalgh, of the 8500 block of Guinea Road, died at the scene.

Anaya said there was no indication that the driver of the Volkswagen was speeding or impaired and that the accident is still under investigation.

This was the third traffic fatality in Gloucester in 2021.
