Paving underway near Coleman Bridge

Daytime paving operations began yesterday along Route 17 at Gloucester Point near the George P. Coleman Memorial Bridge, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

The contractor is milling, paving and replacing traffic signal detectors along a 1.5-mile stretch. Motorists are restricted to one lane at the following locations—northbound Route 17 from just north of Route 216 to just north of Route 1307; and southbound Route 17 between Routes 667 and 614.

To minimize delays during the morning and evening commute, the following work restrictions will be in place each day: from 6 to 9 a.m., no lane closures on Route 17 South; from 3 to 6 p.m., no lane closures on Route 17 North.

The paving project is expected to be complete by next Wednesday, Oct. 10.
