Paving projects underway in Mathews

The Virginia Department of Transportation announced that three road paving projects should be underway in Mathews next week.

Tina Bundy, a VDOT spokesperson, said crews began milling and paving on a stretch of Route 198 last week. A continuous 7.05-mile section of Route 198 is being upgraded from the intersection of Route 3 to just east of Route 14. That project is expected to be completed on Friday, Aug. 2.

Two other road milling and paving projects are scheduled to begin next week. Bundy said a continuous 7.08-mile section of Route 14, between Routes 3 and 198, will be upgraded. Work is expected to be completed on Aug. 2.

Also, a 0.11-mile section of Route 3 will be improved, Bundy said, between Route 14 and the Mathews County line. Work is expected to continue until Wednesday, Aug. 7.

All three project completion dates are dependent on the weather, with Lee Hy Paving of Glen Allen contracted to complete the road work.
