Paulette Lodge Ashe, 77, of Gloucester Point, passed into eternal rest on April 9, 2026. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed, but her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace and in the presence of her Savior. Paulette was born on September 27, 1948 to the late John P. and Margaret Grubbs Lodge and was raised in Williamsburg, Virginia. She graduated from James Blair High School in 1966 and attended Chowan College. She later worked for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation reservation office and for the College of William and Mary, in both the Athletic Department and the Swem Library. Paulette also worked side by side in the family greenhouse business, Ashe’s Nursery, where she enjoyed talking to customers and nourished her love for flowers. More than anything, Paulette loved her family. She was a devoted wife to her husband of almost 53 years, Thomas Ashe, and a loving mother to Melissa Ashe, and Ryan Ashe and his wife Amy. She took great pride in her role as grandmother—affectionately known as “Nannie”—to Alexandra Rice and her husband Jacob, Addison Ashe, and Andi Ashe, and as great-grandmother to Evalyn Rice. Time spent with her family brought her the greatest joy, and she created a home filled with love, support, and lasting memories. She lived a life grounded in faith, love, and devotion to her family. A faithful member of Gloucester Point Baptist Church, Paulette served her church with dedication for many years, including 26 years as Chair of the Hospitality Committee. Through this role, Paulette welcomed, cared for, and ministered to countless individuals, always ensuring others felt seen, valued, and loved. She also served as a Sunday School teacher, led VBS registration for over 40 years, and chaired the Flower Committee. Decorating the sanctuary at Christmas was one of her favorite times of year. Paulette will be remembered for her quiet strength, her kind heart, and the steady presence she provided to those around her. Whether through her faith, her service, or her care for others, she made a lasting impact on everyone who knew her.
She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will carry on through all who knew and loved her. The family received friends Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at Gloucester Point Baptist Church from 10-10:45 a.m., followed by an 11 o’clock service conducted by Pastor Ray “Bud” Goude Jr. Interment was held in Gloucester Point Cemetery. To honor her lifelong devotion to her faith, we kindly ask memorial contributions to be made to Gloucester Point Baptist Church “Hospitality Fund,” P.O. Box 305, Gloucester Point, Va. 23062. We would like to extend special thanks to her palliative care team at VCU Medical Center.
Services under the direction of Hogg Funeral Home.
