PAUL F. FITZPATRICK

Paul F. Fitzpatrick (LTC, U.S. Army-ret.), 80, of Wicomico, Va., passed away peacefully July 26, 2016.

He was born on January 1, 1936 in New Jersey. Paul graduated from Seton Hall Prep, South Orange, New Jersey (1953), Seton Hall University, South Orange, New Jersey (1957), and United States Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (1974), and various other military schools during his 28 years of service in the U.S. Army. Paul also served as the Army ROTC Instructor at Providence College, Rhode Island (1965-1968). He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Council No. 9428, and a lifetime member of the VFW Chapter 8252.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Regina (Rowe) Fitzpatrick, and his brother, James J. Fitzpatrick.

Paul is survived by the love of his life, whom he married on September 7, 1957, Edwina Confroy Fitzpatrick, and they immediately began their family and traveling the world during his service to our country. They were blessed with five children, Paul Jr. (Pattie), Michelle Baker (Carlton), Carolyn Murray, Mark (Terri) and their caboose, Valerie Gardner (Kenny). Their blessings continued with 10 grandchildren, Jamie Fitzpatrick (Tommy), Paul Fitzpatrick III (Yvonne), Georginia Fitzpatrick (Michael), Megan Murray Kuhmann (Fred), Tara Murray, Jennifer Fitzpatrick, Ryan Fitzpatrick (Niki), Cody Hansford, Scott Fitzpatrick and Colin Hansford. Paul was blessed to welcome and love 12 great-grandchildren; and we cannot forget his little fur buddy, “Coco” who pushed him to walk on a daily basis.

Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, his cars, boating and swimming, especially with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed giving advice on every subject to anyone and everyone that was around.

A service of Christian Liturgy conducted by the Rev. James Cowles will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August, 6, 2016 at St. Therese Catholic Church, Gloucester. The family will receive friends to celebrate Paul’s life on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. with the Knights of Columbus leading a Rosary, 8:30 at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Inurnment with military honors will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

Mrs. Fitzpatrick and family would like to express extreme gratitude for the care given to Paul during his time at York Convalescent and Rehabilitation Center, York County.

In Paul’s memory, the family desires contributions be made to the Bread for Life Food Pantry, 6262 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061 or a charity of your choice.
