Patriots shut out Blue Devils, 48-0

The Mathews High School varsity football team dropped to 0-2 on the season, following a 48-0 shutout on Saturday on the road against Portsmouth Christian.

“Last week’s game is behind us and we are looking forward to this week,” MHS head coach C.J. Kelly said following the loss to the Patriots. “We are all still in it together and the fight will continue.”

Mathews will look to break out into the win column this Friday when the Blue Devils travel to Lancaster to face the Red Devils in a non-conference game, starting at 7 p.m.

MHS will have another road game next Friday against Northumberland, with the Blue Devils’ home opener to be held on Friday, Sept. 27, against Rappahannock. ...
