Patriots Grill opens in Gloucester

Patriots Grill opened Aug. 13 on Main Street, near its intersection with Route 17 South, Gloucester. After several weeks of serving only dinner, the restaurant extended its hours on Sept. 3 to include lunch service.

Owner Pat O’Carroll of Yorktown is no newcomer to the local dining scene. He previously owned a pub in Mathews and a deli in Gloucester. His new establishment is located in a building that most recently held a pancake and waffle house.

Patriots Grill features smoked meats, O’Carroll said, with two smokers on site. Smoked meat specials change often, he said, and will feature combinations of beef, chicken and pork.

O’Carroll said he also wants his restaurant to become known for its sandwiches, which feature hearty breads he procures from bakeries in Williamsburg and Charlottesville. Besides using good quality meats and cheeses on the sandwiches, O’Carroll said, he features many homemade sauces, catsup and chutneys.
