PATRICIA (PAT) ALBERTA SWEETWOOD KING

Patricia (Pat) Alberta Sweetwood King died peacefully in her home in Hallie-ford, Va. (Mathews County) on 29 January 2024. She was 86 years old. Before moving to Hallieford, she lived for 44 years in Grafton, Va., with her husband, Harvey King Sr., who preceded her in death. There she raised her three children, Brenda Roth (Tim Roth), Harvey King Jr., and Tammy Baker (Grady Baker Jr.). Pat worked for 25 years at the Roses Department Store in Grafton. She loved her customers, and they would line up at her register just to talk to her. She retired from Roses in 2013. Pat had a “green” thumb, and her house was filled with plants and flowers. She enjoyed cooking for her family and hosted every holiday as well as Sunday dinners when her children would visit. She also had a passion for animals and always was in the company of dogs, cats, and other pets too many to mention. As her health declined, she needed additional care and moved in with her daughter, Brenda and her husband, Tim. She continued to enjoy the outdoors, plants, dogs, and dinner with family and friends. If not outdoors in the sunshine, she would be watching her favorite TV shows, especially Gunsmoke and other popular westerns. In addition to her three children, Pat is survived by two sisters, Betty Huffman of Seth, West Virginia, and Rebecca Wickline of Fayetteville, West Virginia. She is also survived by her grandson, Grady Baker III, who lives with his wife Emily and Pat’s great-granddaughter, Haven. They were an important part of her life. Pat’s life was filled with laughter and love. She will be greatly missed.

The family will have a gathering at home on Pat’s birthday in March. Donations in her name can be made to Riverside Walter Reed Hospice, 7358 Main Street, Gloucester, Va. 23061.

Andrews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
