PATRICIA CALLANAN

Patricia Callanan, 81, of Hampton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, April 24, 2013.

Patricia was a native of Lancaster, Pa., and was a former resident of Weyers Cave, Va., and Hampton, before moving to Gloucester in 1999.

She graduated magna cum laude in 1987 from Thomas Nelson Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science and a Major in Human Services. She was formerly employed with Riverside Rehabilitation Center as a recreational therapist, and served as a volunteer to patients with Alzheimer’s at Gloucester House.

Patricia’s husband, Capt. Richard J. Callanan, was killed when his plane was shot down in Vietnam in January of 1966.

She is survived by two sons, Kevin J. Callanan and his wife Lisa of Winchester, Va., Michael Callanan of Gloucester; a daughter, Kathleen M. Davis and her husband Kevin of Hampton, and four grandchildren, Colin, Emma, Connor and William. She is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy Shiflet, Margaret McConnon, and Joanne Weber and her husband George, and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hampton with Deacon Jose Gonzales officiating. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Patricia’s residence.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 11835 Canon Blvd., Suite A-102, Newport News, Va. 23606.
