Party With a Purpose to fund new MHS band uniforms

Members of the Mathews High School band, and its director Mark Givens, were the special guests of the Mathews Rotary Club, speaking to club members at last Thursday’s meeting. They talked about their accomplishments of the band, why they joined, how they have learned to work together and be respectful of others and understand the value of practice. The students all play two or more instruments that are diverse from each other such as the trumpet and violin. The club is getting ready to embark on its annual fundraising event, Party With a Purpose, this year’s money raised for new high school band uniforms. The uniforms are 25 years old and need replacing. There are currently 40 students in the high school band and 45 up-and-coming band students in grades six and seven. The Party is Sunday, June 7 from 4-7 p.m. at Williams Wharf.
