Partners in sweets met at church, now cook up delights

When two young ladies met at Newington Baptist Church, which they both attend, they soon learned that each had a love of cooking.

 

As they began to know each other better, Tiffany Steiger, who has lived in Gloucester all her life, learned that Kim Cortes, who has lived in Mathews since 1993, knew a great deal about baking and she wanted to learn more. They decided that “since God gave us this gift, we wanted to share it with others.” So for almost a year they have been putting together some tasty baked goods, including rolls.

 

Kim explained her love of baking. “My dad owned a bakery. I grew up with wonderful baked goods. I learned to cook from my dad and family members. My grandmother was a great cook. I guess the rolls are my favorite item to make. I use my dad’s recipe and the folks at the Courthouse Restaurant allow me to come in and use their commercial mixer, since the one I have at home is much too small.”
