Parties to hold presidential primaries on March 1

A Dual Party Presidential Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, March 1 at regular polling locations in both counties from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m.

According to Gloucester’s voter registrar Bobbi Morgan, while Virginia election law stipulates that any qualified voter may vote in either political party’s primary, no voter may vote in more than one political party’s primary on the same Election Day.

“You must choose which primary you want to vote in,” Morgan said. She explained that under Virginia law, a dual primary consists of two separate elections conducted on the same day. “There are separate poll books, separate ballots and ballot boxes,” she said. “Results for each primary are tallied separately and Virginia law only allows you to vote in one of these two separate elections.”
