The splendid parsonage of Bethel Church in Mathews which has been thoroughly modernized and enlarged at the cost of two thousand dollars, under the leadership of the present pastor, Rev. L.J. Phaup, was thrown open for inspection on the evening of Sept. 29. The house and lawn were brilliantly lighted, and sweet strains of music floated out to the lawn where a delightful supper and light refreshments were served to the many friends who called to enjoy the happy occasion and express their high appreciation of the work done on the parsonage. This fine piece of church work is largely due to the faithful women of the good old Mathews circuit and the energetic building committee. The parsonage is now a thing of beauty and doubtless will be a joy to many preachers’ families.
