Park Partners receives cigarette litter prevention grant for Point Beach

Gloucester’s Park Partners has been awarded a 30 in Thirty Grant in the amount of $1,000 for cigarette litter prevention.

Park Partners will be using the money to promote the correct disposal of cigarette butts at the Gloucester Point Beach Park, according to a release from Keep Virginia Beautiful.

The growing problem of cigarette litter throughout the beach has created a negative impact on the marine environment, decreased its attractiveness for residents and visitors, and hindered economic development efforts.

With funds awarded by Keep Virginia Beautiful, Park Partners will be able to purchase unique Bait Tanks cigarette ash receptacles for use by swimmers and portable ashtrays for use on boats or the beach. They will also have a kickoff event to distribute the portable ashtrays and educate both residents and non-residents about the importance of proper cigarette butt disposal.
