Page robotics team makes it to regional semifinals

The Page Middle School Cyborg Eagles VEX team made it to the semifinals of the regional robotics tournament held Jan. 27 at Huguenot High School in Richmond. 

The team consisted of sixth graders Tanner Bayly, Chrissy Silva, Jamey Smith and Emma Dobson; seventh graders Kailey Roark and Alix Shackelford; and eight graders Brogan Hoback, Gavin Cohn, Evan Morgan and Beau Adams. 

The Page team, coached by faculty members Sherry Rollins and Shanna Merritt, was one of four middle school teams among the 30 teams registered for the robotics tournament. 

The Cyborg Eagles and their robot, Phoenix, were picked for the tournament quarterfinals as an alliance team to run defense and keep other opponents from scoring. 

The Cyborg’s alliance included a team from Glen Allen, which ultimately won the tournament, and a team from Ashburn that won the design award. The alliance advanced and finished in the semi-final round.  ...
