P.E.O. grant recipient honored

Rappahannock Community College and Old Dominion University student Kendra Yates has been awarded $3,000 P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education grant. She was sponsored by Chapter BT of Mathews.
The P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education was established in 1973 to provide need-based grants to women in the U.S. and Canada whose education has been interrupted and who find it necessary to return to school to complete a degree or certification that will improve their marketable skills for employment to support themselves and their families.
Yates received her certification as a registered nurse on Jan. 11 at the RCC graduation ceremony held in White Stone. She is pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing (BSN) at Old Dominion University and has accepted a position as an RN in the emergency room of VCU Health Tappahannock Hospital. The scholarship will allow her to complete her education debt-free, a release said.
