The Mathews Rotary Club held its annual fundraising Oyster Roast and BBQ Riot on Saturday, Oct. 14. Despite all the rain, there was a large turnout. More than 250 tickets were sold and it seems nearly everyone came to enjoy the food and live music, a release stated. More than 4,000 Mathews oysters, on the half shell and roasted, and 200 pounds of BBQ were consumed. The event was held at Williams Wharf, where live music was provided by Mike Reed. Over $7,500 was raised and the proceeds will go directly back into the community. Upcoming Mathews Rotary fundraising events are the Rockfish Tournament on Dec. 9-10, Chili Cook-off on Feb. 10, 2024, Flags for Heroes May 27-July 4, 2024 and Party With A Purpose on June 1, 2024.
