Oyster gardener event in Deltaville on Aug. 26

The Tidewater Oyster Gardeners’ Association will hold an educational event and oyster spat sale at the Deltaville Maritime Museum during the museum’s Holly Point Market from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Aug. 26. The museum is located at 287 Jackson Creek Road, Deltaville.

TOGA Master Oyster Gardeners will provide informational materials and advice for new oyster gardeners or those with questions about maintaining their oyster gardens. Various equipment such as cages and floats, tumblers, spat bags, and high velocity water cages will be on display.

Local spat vendors will be on hand to sell triploid and diploid spat (baby oysters).

TOGA will be offering its new “Oysters 101” course for adults and youth which covers how to start your own oyster garden. To sign up for the course, email Carl Zulick at czulick@verizon.net.
