Brian Owens has recently completed a standout sophomore pitching season for the Christopher Newport University baseball team.
The 2016 Mathews High School graduate broke a CNU record for most pitching appearances in a season and was one of three Captains named to this year’s NCAA Regional All-Tournament team.
The southpaw notched 72 strikeouts in 50 innings pitched, compiling a 3-0 record with a 2.88 ERA. In February, he was named to the D3baseball.com National Team of the Week. He was also named to the Capital Athletic Conference 2017-2018 All-Academic Team.
In the NCAA Division III South Regional Championship tournament, Owens pitched six innings, striking out eight and giving up no earned runs. CNU was runner-up in the tournament, two games away from earning a spot in the Division III College World Series.
