Outstanding youth awards

The Gloucester Youth Commission and Gloucester Kiwanis Club combined efforts for several years to recognize outstanding youth in the county. The honorees in 1996, from left, included Chris Faison, Gloucester High senior and youth commission chair, active in many organizations and volunteer programs; Katie Sochor, who worked with preschool children in a GHS curriculum, had dual enrollment at Rappahannock Community College, and tutored other students; Mashona Council, GHS class president and Beta Club president, active in many school organizations; Chaka Cooke, junior class president at GHS, vice president of the GHS Multicultural Club, track and field standout, and more; Jennifer Jordan, Beta and National Honor Society member, Girls State representative, class secretary, and active in band, chorus, tennis and basketball; and youth advocate Christi Lewis, director of Gloucester Community Education, involved with many community groups focusing on young people....
