Out on the river: Williams Wharf regatta brings wins for local rowers

The Gloucester High School crew earned five wins, five second places and a third during the 2016 Mathews Regatta Saturday at Williams Wharf. 

For the Gloucester girls, Casey Martin, Bailey Hamilton, Mackenzie Marbain, Ashleigh Dough and coxswain Autumn Rose won the varsity four in 5:42.3. The race was close but the Gloucester girls pulled ahead to finish three seconds before the second-place boat.

Gloucester and Mathews girls combined for the varsity eight with Martin, Hamilton, Marbain, Dough and Rose joining Lilly Thompson, Katelyn James, Taylor Hummel and Logan Howlett to win the event in 4:49.8. Martin, Hamilton, Marbain and Dough then placed second in 5:15.6 in the quad. 

Martin was second in the single in 3:55.2 followed by teammate Heidi Cooper at fourth in 3:58.4, a good showing for lightweight Cooper.
