OPHELIA RAMMELL LONGEST

Ophelia Rammell Longest, born Sept. 13, 1920 at Dixie, Va., went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at her home in Dutton, Mathews County, after a battle with congestive heart failure.

She was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ross and Sarah Belle Rammell; her husband, John William Longest; sons, Thomas Gerald and Willard Carlton Longest; a grandson, Thomas Montgomery Pike Fary, and a granddaughter, Carol Longest.

She is survived by her four children, Mary Newhouse and her husband Mike of Gloucester, John William Longest Jr. and his wife Ann of Jamaica, Va., Gloria A. Longest of Waco, Tex. and Sarah Fary of Gloucester; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. She loved her family and talked about them a lot.

The family received friends from 7-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, Mathews. Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, 2012 in the funeral home chapel with interment following in H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Va.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Spring Hill Baptist Church or to a charity of one’s choice.
