To kick off the 2018-2019 school year, Mathews County Public Schools will hold its annual Opening Day Convocation at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22 in the Brooks Auditorium at Thomas Hunter Middle School.

School board chairman John Priest and county supervisors’ chair Charles Ingram are expected to deliver greetings from their respective boards.

All new employees are scheduled to report on Aug. 20; all teachers report the next day. Teacher workdays/professional development will be held Aug. 21-30. The schools will hold open houses for students and parents on Aug. 29.

The 2018-2019 school year begins on Tuesday, Sept. 4, following the Labor Day holiday. ...
