Open houses next week for Gloucester schools

Gloucester County Public Schools have scheduled open house events next week in preparation for the 2012-2013 school year, which begins on Tuesday, Sept. 4.
 
Open house for freshmen at Gloucester High School will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, while open house for sophomores, juniors and seniors will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29. Class schedules will be available during open house.
 
School begins at GHS at 8 a.m. daily and is dismissed at 2:40 p.m. Breakfast is available for students before school for $1.25 and lunch is available for $2.10. A la carte items are also available.
 
The football season gets underway at GHS next Thursday, Aug. 30, when the Dukes host the Bethel Bruins at 7 p.m. Discounted season tickets for all five home games will be available during the open house sessions at GHS.
 
Page Middle School will hold open house for its eighth grades from 5 to 7:30 p.m. next Thursday, Aug. 30. School hours are from 8 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. daily. Breakfast is available to Page students for $1.05 and school lunch is $1.85.
 
Peasley Middle School will hold open house for sixth graders from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and for seventh graders from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29. School begins at Peasley at 7:45 a.m. and is dismissed at 2:30 p.m. Breakfast is available for $1.05 and lunch for $1.85.

Abingdon Elementary will host open house for kindergartners from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29 and for first through fifth graders from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30. Achilles Elementary will hold orientation for preschool, kindergarten and children new to the school from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29.  Open house for first through fifth graders will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 30.

Botetourt Elementary will hold open house for kindergartners beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, and for first through fifth graders from 5 to 7 p.m. next Thursday, Aug. 30.

Bethel Elementary will hold open house for kindergartners from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 29, and for first through fifth graders from 6 to 7:30 p.m. next Thursday, Aug. 30. Petsworth Elementary will hold open house for all students from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 30.

School begins for elementary students at 9 a.m. daily and is dismissed at 3:45 p.m. Breakfast is available for $1 and lunch for $1.75.

Free or reduced price meals are available for all GCPS students who qualify. Children in households that receive SNAP benefits or TANF are eligible for free meals regardless of income.

Other children may be eligible for free or reduced meals depending on household income. Income guidelines and applications are available in the main office at each school. For more information regarding school meals, call 693-3585.
