On Timberneck Creek

Yellow-crowned night herons are usually a bit camera shy, but this juvenile seemed happy to pose Friday on Timberneck Creek in Hayes. “There were three youngsters and last year we had five,” photographer Larry Sherertz said. “The adult birds are elusive and I have never seen one.” With the Black-crowned Night Heron, the Yellow-crowned Night Heron is the other of two species found in the Americas.
