GHS baseball splits pair of games

Gloucester High School varsity baseball players had a win and a loss in recent action to remain in eighth place in Peninsula District standings. The Dukes beat Heritage Friday but fell to first-place Woodside, 9-5, on the road Tuesday.

Gloucester (6-11) got off to a three-run start in the first inning on Tuesday but the Wolverines came back to notch it at 4-4 by the fourth, and were boosted by a five-run fifth inning. Jacob Brown took the loss on the mound.

The Dukes posted a 10-run shutout of visiting Heritage on Friday. Adam Baldwin went 3-4 at the plate with a triple and a third-inning grand slam for five RBIs. Baldwin also scored a pair of runs. Brian Belvin was 2-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Tyler Wood got the win on the mound for Gloucester.

The Dukes close out the schedule Friday with a 4:30 p.m. host of Denbigh (10-6).
