Saturday’s special on-the-air event at Abingdon Park commemorating Captain John Smith’s capture and release in 1607 was again shared with the amateur radio community by members of the Middle Peninsula Amateur Radio Club. Information about Virginia’s newest state park, Machicomoco, was also shared over ham radio. Forty-nine contacts were made with stations including the farthest one in Ontario, Canada. One of the club’s new members, Dean Marzocca, gave a demonstration of a drone UAV with its video photographic capabilities. Excellent radio propagation and fine weather led to a successful public event. Shown here manning the radio were Jeannie Smith and Will Hrachovina.
