Olympic medalist has local ties

Coleman Scott, the Olympic athlete and nephew of Gloucester Point resident Tucker Witt, won one of only four medals captured by the U.S. wrestling team, taking home a bronze in the 60 kg. freestyle class at the 2012 London games.

Scott, of Stillwater, Okla., was the last wrestler to make the U.S. squad, winning a wrestle-off in Times Square in June for the privilege. His only defeat in the Olympics came in the semifinal round to eventual gold medalist, Toghrul Asgarov of Azerbaijan.

Scott’s mother is Mary Witt Scott, Witt’s sister and a 1974 graduate of Gloucester High School.
