Olympia Sports, a sporting goods and apparel chain based in Maine, opened its first store in this region in mid-November at York River Crossing Shopping Center, Hayes.

Assistant manager Jordan Kellum of Gloucester said the store features many types of sports equipment, including footballs, baseballs and bats (wooden and metal), soccer balls, lacrosse and field hockey sticks, and skateboards.

Kellum said the store features all types of athletic and casual shoes. NFL logo jerseys and other top-brand merchandise are stocked. Shelves are also stocked with novelty items, sports cards, accessories, and a selection of special gifts for the Christmas season.

Some items can be special ordered and shipped to a customer’s residence at no additional charge, Kellum said.

Olympia Sports has more than 225 stores, which are mostly based in smaller markets not served by one of the mega-sports stores, she said.
