Old Vets honored with gala day, music and dinner

Lee-Jackson Day, Thursday last, was a gala day for the Old Vets and the U.D.C. of Mathews. An enormous crowd assembled from all parts of the county to join in the ceremonies and furnished to each speaker an attentive and interested audience.

The choir, under the leadership of Mrs. Giles B. Cooke, covered themselves with honor. A run of patriotic and Southern songs were rendered by them in delightful fashion.

The U.D.C. sold dinners at the Junior Order Hall for the benefit of a Confederate monument. A considerable sum was realized.
