Nurse practitioner joins Sentara Family Physicians

Wendy S. Shulman, a nurse practitioner, joined Sentara Family Medicine Physicians in late October.

The practice, which includes Dr. Wayne J. Reynolds, nurse practitioner Shannon D. Burris, and eight support staff, is located at Sentara Gloucester Medical Arts in the Gloucester Business Park, White Marsh.

Shulman said she and the staff offer full medical services for adolescents and adults, including wellness checks, and examinations for special problems like diabetes.

One problem Shulman sees is that too many people do not take the time to be "accountable for their health care." She said nurse practitioners can provide many services that a physician can.

 

Shulman joined Sentara in 2005, previously based at the Sentara CarePlex in Hampton, where she specialized in pain management and hospital-based palliative care consultation service.

Earlier, she served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Africa for two years.
