NORRIS WHITE KISER

Norris White Kiser of Mathews, died Oct. 23, 2011 at the age of 91.

Norris was the daughter of the late Ashley and Bertie White. She lived in Portsmouth for 33 years where she and her husband reared their four daughters.

Norris was an active member of West End United Methodist Church, and worked as a volunteer at the Wesley Center in Portsmouth. For 20 years, she volunteered with the American Heart Association.

After retirement she moved back to Mathews and volunteered at Walter Reed Hospital in Gloucester.

Norris is survived by her husband of 72 years, Edward L. Kiser and four daughters, Bette Near and her husband Ray of Roanoke, Joan Sturdivant and her husband Marc of Port St. Joe, Fla., Judy Jamison and her husband Russ of Richmond, and Debbie McGrath of Gloucester. She has eight grandchildren, Melinda White, Kevin Shaw, Tracy Kersey, Craig Curren, John
Jamison, Whitney Chatterjee, Tyler Jamison and Jennifer McGrath. In addition she has 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Gloria Wood of Cobbs Creek.

She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Dallas Shaw, and a great-grandson, Nicolas Kersey.

A graveside service was held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at H. C. Smither Cemetery, Hudgins, followed by a Celebration of Life at noon at Lower Methodist Church, Hartfield, Va.

Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Mathews, was in charge of the arrangements.
