Norris Bridge work on track for November completion

A three-year renovation project at the Robert O. Norris Bridge, located on Route 3 over the Rappahannock River, is on schedule to be completed by the end of November, state transportation officials said Tuesday.

 

Kelly Hannon, a spokesperson for the Virginia Department of Transportation, said Atsalis Brothers Painting, Inc., of Michigan is in charge of the renovation project at the bridge, which connects Middlesex and Lancaster counties. Much of the project has involved painting portions of the bridge.

 

The project has taken so long—but is still on schedule—because Hannon described the job as “a very large undertaking.” Barges have been placed underneath to help make sure that lead from the bridge did not harm the environment during the painting process.

 

The project has included painting beams, girders, box beams and deck trusses. “They painted everything but the center span,” Hannon said.
