No time set for Woods Cross Roads improvement

Problems related to Gloucester’s Woods Cross Roads intersection were addressed again during Tuesday’s meeting of the Gloucester Board of Supervisors, which was held in the colonial courthouse. No timeline was given for a solution.

The intersection of Woods Cross Road and Route 17 in northern Gloucester is a dangerous one, which has been stated multiple times by the board. There have been two deaths at this particular intersection within the last year, the most recent in October. Lee McKnight, the Virginia Department of Transportation’s Saluda Residency Administrator, gave his update on what VDOT plans to do with that intersection.

McKnight said the agency is working on the preliminary engineering design phase of a restricted crossing U-turn improvement or RCUT, using funding from the Highway Safety Improvement Program. There is no time frame on when it will be done, but VDOT is working urgently on the project, McKnight said.
