NNO music director receives Grammy nomination

Northern Neck Orchestra Music Director Michael Repper and the New York Youth Symphony have received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Orchestral Performance for their album which features debut recordings of works by American composers Florence Price, Valerie Coleman and Jessie Montgomery.

“I am thrilled and gratified that the first album by the New York Youth Symphony has received this international recognition,” said Repper, who is in his sixth season as Music Director of the symphony that performs at Carnegie Hall. “The Grammy nomination is a testament to the power of youth, and what young people can accomplish when they are empowered to give it their all,” he said.

Repper noted that there are Northern Neck connections to the recording. “The initial idea for the album and its further development occurred while I was on retreat in the Northern Neck during the early months of Covid,” he said.
