Next-door neighbors set out to revive old Moon P.O.

The old Moon Post Office in Mathews is on the road to restoration, thanks to next-door neighbors Jameson and Lauren Gregg, who purchased the building recently from previous owner Peter Maxwell.

The Greggs moved to Moon from Gloucester in 2017 into a circa 1850 farmhouse that was once owned by William Jefferson Callis, the postmaster at the Moon Post Office in the early 1900s. He subdivided the property, leaving five acres with the house, but including the post office in the 17 remaining acres. Former Mathews High School teacher Adrienne Quigley bought the house from Maxwell and was the owner at the time of the Greggs’s purchase.
