Health Trail, Inc., a Newport News-based natural food and health products store, opened a sister store at White Marsh Shopping Center in early May.

Mary Blanton of Yorktown, who owns the two stores with her husband Ted, said they saw a good opportunity to expand to Gloucester, as they liked the mid-county location of the center. She said this store is smaller than the one in Newport News, but is well stocked with a large number of health foods and other products.

Health Trail specializes in organic products, Blanton said, including many that are wheat and gluten free. Besides a large inventory of food and beverages, Blanton said Health Trail sells a lot of health and body care products including oils and hair coloring.

Soon, the local store will add a smoothie bar, she said, and will begin offering classes on a variety of healthy living topics. A big seller in the first few weeks that the store has been open is Kombucha, a probiotic drink, manager Katy Waters of Gloucester said. Org...
